Marcharius IX Campaign: Curtain Call

"I dont care about that damned planet,I only care that the heads of each and every [Chaos] Lord there is on a [expletive] pike" - Uriel Bejz (Renegade Marine, once of the Minotaur's chapter 999 M41)

"I commend them, the Gue'La. Not for their tenacity, not for their ferocity nor for their cunning. It is for their honor that I now have great respect for them. Even when drawn down to a man, even when death was inevitable, they still fought us with all they had, instead of cowering or surrendering like dogs. When faced against overwhelming odds, they stood strong, even when scores fell. These...humans...they will forever have my respect." -  Shas'O BrightSun (T'Kain Sept, Marcharius IX reclamation Force M41)

Today ends our groups Marcharius IX Table top Campaign. Marcharius IX first appeared in our Dark Heresy game as a world on the edge of the Imperium. Located between Tau Space and the Imperium, this world would come to have drastic consequences for the party.

The party first encounter Marcharius IX in their pursuit of the Rogue Trader Josiah. Josiah had been spreading chaos tainted wheat across the imperium for years, having been chased by Inquisitor Herodotus and his warband. Bo Terran, the charismatic interrogator and de facto leader of the party, unintentionally brought the party to the world after getting captured and pulled into in a webway with eldar pirates. What the party found was a world high in tension. Tau and Humans living together in tense truce. After reestablishing contact, they found that the local Governor of the world had made a trade deal with Josiah in order to sell the world's resources to chaos in exchange for immortality. It was discovered that Bubo the plague father and Kordan of the Thousand Sons would soon arrive. Bubo with the Rogue trader, and Kordan in pursuit of Bubo. The party only barely escaped as the world fell to chaos around them. Having made it out alive, the party called upon the Marines of the Dorn's Raiders and "The Coalition", a mass gathering of Space Marines, Guardsmen, and other factions of the imperium in order to retake Marcharius IX. When the party returned to Marcharius, they had one goal. Kill the 2 chaos lords. While Bubo was killed in the fighting, many members of the Coalition were lost. Unable to stop the imperium, Kordan summoned a warp storm and consumed the planet in the warp. The party was only barely able to escape having suffered major losses in friendly Non player characters and major damage to themselves. The Coalition along with the Dorn's Raiders took massive causalities in the fighting as well.

100 years passed......

This is where the table top campaign took off. After 31 days in May, each of the former PCs and GM recorded a total of 20 games played.  The armies were as followed:  Jon: Detachment D-44 (Imperium), Jerry: T'Kain Sep (Tau), Greg: Dorn's Raiders (Space Marines) and Tallarn (Imperial Guard), Kurtis: 186th Death Korp (Imperial Guard) and Chaos Marines (Night Lords) , and Matt: Brother Hood of Ferrus (Iron Hands Space Marines).

The Imperium had a 1:4 win loss ratio.  The Tau had a 1:1 win loss ratio and chaos had a 0:0 ratio. The height of the campaign was when the Dark mech stole a former PC's power lance that they had left behind for the survivors. What chaos wants with the Power lance is a story that will be told when Wrath and Glory (the new 40k RPG) releases this June This is not the last we have heard of Marcharius IX. In the mean time, the Tau of the T'Kain Sept had reclaimed the world in the name of the Tau Empire. What they found was horrific and barbaric......

Post Campagin Patch for Detachment D-44

The last of the Gue'la lay dead in a pile. The firefight had been tough and many shas'la of the T'kain sept lay dead near where the Gue'la tank had blasted their position. After a month of fighting, the human world, once known as Marcharius IX had been reclaimed by the Tau Empire. The Etherals wanted to cleanse the world of all chaos taint and make it into a new sept world. One that would be a shining example to the rest of the Empire. However Commander Brightsun was not so sure. Having seen the horrors of the landscape and the chaotic influences that had ravaged this world for so long, Bright sun was sure that no tau citizen could ever truly consider this a home. The surviving human forces had either been scattered or died en masse. As for the chaos forces, they had disappeared as quickly as they had come. Many of the Imperiums soldiers had escaped and command reported that they had gotten back to the Imperium lines. Entire parts of the world burned. The Imperium had not left quietly and Brightsun believed they would back someday. Among the survivors had been found humans as old as 150 years old. Many Earth Caste believed this was not natural for the human life span and questions had been asked of those who had been found. One of them, a young human had responded that the warp had kept them alive to live their own personal hells. Many Earth caste scientist took this be the ramblings of a insane human.Whatever the case was, there was still work to be done. The twisted barren landscape was still full of daemon creatures and resistance cells. Whether or not the world could ever  be fully reclaimed Brightsun did not know. Taking a last look at the deadpile of tau warriors Bright sun activated his XV-8 and flew off to find another battle.

2018!: New Year and New Projects!

Hello and welcome to the 2018 edition of Behind the Lines Gaming. As a new year gets underway we look forward to the new start that a new year will bring. Like last year I will be attempting to post every other week but real life might  get in the way. As with last year, this is more a attempt to regulate myself than a true schedule or promise.

Projects for this year include finishing my Tanith 1st and only army as well as my Phantine and Pardus 8th Armored. Good progress has been made on this army and I can only hope 2018 sees to it that more good things are to come.

My Menoth forces will also continue to be worked on. This army is a small one and I am unsure if any more models will be added to it. Time will tell. What use to be a nice 50 point army is now somewhere in the 40 point range. These point changes, as well as the game going up to 75 points has left a sour taste in my mouth.

My Adeptus Mech forces might also grow some in 2018. I am planning to completely rebuild my list with a new force and build up my forces to 2000 points.

With the lack of a Tau codex for 8t Edition, The Tau Sept has been shelved until the codex hits. Once the codex comes out, I will see how Tau have transferred over to the new edition.

The Deathwatch force remains small while the Black Templar army I bought in 2017 has been stripped and primed. Im still not certain what I want to do with them at all. I might at some point sell them.

2018 is going to be a exciting new year that we here at Behind the Lines gaming hope everyone will be excited for! Stay tuned for a much more to come!

Mortian Battle Tank: A Review

Today I present to you a unscripted post. Mostly because its Here for only a limited time. The Mortian tank! A popular favorite with the Imperial Guard Community has returned and with it the limited chance to get a very nice tank.

I first encountered the Mortian tank in 2015. At the time, I was looking to get out of Game's workshop models and move onto 3rd party stuff. The Mortian tank instantly became a favorite while doing a casual search online. It had everything I wanted. The look of a Panzer with the proportions of a realistic looking tank.

However, I soon found that the designer of the tank had not had his stuff for sale since 2009. Nonetheless, I searched through google and found his site. In a desperate bid to get a trio of the tanks, I sold of my Leman Russes and ordered three Mortian. With  that done, I also found a 4th from a mutual acquaintance. This Mortian you see in the picture was the tank from the mutual acquaintance. When i received it, it was in harsh condition. I was able to fix it up and put it back together as best I could. Finally, I got it into a game against necron. I have pictures from that game but since it was so far back, I don't really remember the details. Needless to say, the model was a absolute delight to play. I soon primed it but then things took a turn for the worst. After 2 months, my orders had not come in yet. Digging deeper, I found that the site was down and with it my order had been lost. It seemed as if the company and the designer had dropped off the face of the earth. I was able to get a refund through PayPal and that was the end of my hopes for a trio of the Mortian. I sold off my Mortian on Ebay for next to nothing and pushed it from my mind. I was disappointed and sad. Mad Robot and Victoria Lamb both had tanks coming out soon I heard. So I waited.

Every so often I would look online at Leman Russ tanks and see the Mortian and remember that it was no longer available. I tried another route and bought three Leman Russes from Game's workshop but soon tired of those too and sold them off to a friend. However with the Mortian now back (Even as a kick starter) it hold a special place in my mind.

The model is beautiful, easy to put together and looks great on the table. For those of you who want a tank that will be sure to turn heads and get comments from people around the gaming table I would highly recommend ordering one (or three!) They really are worth it in the end, even for the rarity factor alone, I would suggest at least 1. They'll look great at any photo op!

Below are some battle report photos from the Battle i used it in back in 2015. I don't remember any of the turns so its best just to leave the photos here.

Until next time!

Battle Report: Ambush at Outpost 352

So its been a while since I did my last post. My new job has been very busy and in that regard im grateful. Its good to be working full time in a career that I enjoy. However, what that does mean is that these post are going to get infrequent and so Im planning to do 1 per month now.

So what do you all have in store today? I present to you the Ambush at Outpost 352. This game took place right after the Imperial Guard Codex came out but before the FAQ so some of the rules might sound wrong for those who are on the look out for such things.
Lets Begin

Turn 1: He castles in the objective on the far left of the table. It was secure and control. Each player has to hold their objective and try to seize the enemies. I had set three chimera's with troops and platoon leaders off the table to use the Tallarn Ambush doctrine. Therefore his only targets were my Valkyrie and three Leman Russes. He fires at my Leman Russ and does a number of wounds on it. His Lord and Sorcerer deep strike close to my tank line and throw out a smite and a wound. Nurglings are also summoned via the Lord and so I have to deal with daemons now.

Turn 1: My chimera's come on to the Table. Doing a drive by they push up the right side of the table. Meanwhile my Tanks back off the Sorcerer and the Chaos lord. My Valkyrie flys forward 20' and prepares for a round of shooting. 2 Tanks fired on the Sorcerer and kill him. The 3rd fires on the nurglings and kills them as well. First Blood goes to the Tanith! Meanwhile my Chimeras fire on the lord dealing some damage to him. The Valkyrie fires a few missiles into the fortress where all the chaos marines are holed up with the objective.

Turn 2: Turn 2 saw him move his lord up and get closer to my tank. On the other end of the board a few of his marines in the castle moved around to get better shots. The lord cast a power of smith on a tank causing a wound. The marines fired wounding two of the three tanks and aiming to hit the Valkyrie doing a little damage. The chaos lord fails to make his charge and the turn goes to me.

Turn 2:  My Turn 2 saw my chimeras move up. My Valkyrie did a 90 degree pivot and flew away from the castle gunfire. My Tanks backed up nearly to the board edge. Now after orders were kicked out in the shooting phase it was time to strike back. My chimeras fired upon the fortress and killed a marine. The Command Chimera shot at the lord but missed. The tanks fired upon the fortress but missed due to being badly damaged. Overall it was a very bad turn and things were looking bleak!

Turn 3: His turn 3 saw him summon daemons of slannesh and nurgle. The nurgle daemons were spawned near his castle with the marines. The Slannesh daemons were summoned by his lord to chase a chimera across the board. The Chaos lord moved towards a tank. In the shooting phase, the marines fired at my chimeras doing a few wounds. Another squad fired at my Valkyrie damaging it. Another squad also fired at my tanks damaging them too. By now my tanks were starting to get low on wounds. The Slannesh daemons were able to make their charge in the assault phase and wounded one of my chimera's. The other escaped with a failed charge.

Turn 3: My two chimeras drive off away from the assaulting daemons. The Command Chimera goes for the middle of the board. The Valkyrie does a 90 degree pivot and comes back around. The Tanks push forward a little bit. Ibram Gaunt and a Command squad outflank onto the board and arrive to cap my objective as seen in the picture. In the firing phase, the command chimera fires and kills a few of the daemons of slannesh. The Valkyrie fires upon the newly summoned nurglings killing them and damaging the three flying blight drones. One of my chimeras is unable to fire but the far one is able to fire on the blight drones wounding it. The Tanks then fired killing a blight drone but failing to kill the lord who by now was down to his last wound.

Turn 4:  His Slannesh Daemons moved up chasing the Chimera. His blight drones move up towards the Valkyrie. The chaos lord moves up to attack a tank. Shooting phase sees him fire upon my tanks causing tank #3 to die. The Valkyrie is hit a few times but suffers no wounds. The Chimera is fired upon but also suffers no wounds. Assault phase sees him assault the chimer and blow it up. Three Tanith die in the explosion but the survivors get out ready to push cold hard straight silver into the daemons. The Fight is nasty but at the end a platoon commander and 6 Tanith are alive. Having killed four daemons they remained locked in combat. The chaos lord assaults my Tank but fails to wound it.  The Valkyrie is assaulted by the drones. The drones are wounded but remain locked in combat with the Valkyrie. The Valkyrie is also damaged as well.

Turn 4:  My troops disengaged from the assault and move forward by advancing. The Command chimera goes for the middle hill. Chimera three goes towards the blight drone attacking the Valkyrie. The Valkyrie disengaged and flew off somewhere else. Gaunt and the Command squad hide out on the objective. The tanks back behind cover. Shooting sees the Valkyrie fire and kill another Blight drone. One tank fails to kill the chaos lord but the other does kill the last blight drone. The Tanith on foot gun down one or two slannesh daemon and then unleash a flamer upon them killing 3 more having used the "Get back in the fight" order. The Command chimera fires on the chaos lord but fails to kill him.

Turn 5: He moves his daemons towards the Tanith on foot. The chaos lord sees Gaunt and the Command squad and decides to duke it out, moving towards them. The chaos marines in the castle fire upon the Tanith killing two on foot. They also damage a tank and blow it up but do little else. The Chaos lord fails his assault charge but the Daemons catch up to the Tanith on foot and whittle them down in the fight phase wiping the squad. They then turn and head towards the Command chimera.

Turn 5: My turn I move Gaunt and Company away from the Chaos lord but still within capturing range. The Last tank moves up to add Gaunt and company. The Valkyrie turns around to aim at the Daemons. The Command chimera drops off Corbec, Hark and a squad of Tanith. The Other Chimera moves towards the Daemons to aid Corbec's boys. Gaunt and his squad fire on the Chaos lord failing to kill him. The Tank fires upon the chaos lord and finally with the lascannon kills the chaos lord. Corbec and his squad on the hill First rank fire second rank fire into the Daemons along with Hark. They kill a few daemons.  The Valkyrie fires upon the Daemons killing a few more too. The Chimera fires upon the Daemons from the rear but the squad of 20 daemons is still going strong. Corbec is about to prepare his squad for a order to affix straight silver when the daemons and the chaos marines disappear!

Game over at Turn 5

5-3 Tanith Victory!

Talk about a match! The Tallarn doctrine was great and the outflanking really felt like i was playing a Tanith army. Everything went back and forth all game long and so it was a great match. Since the FAQ came out however, Hark and the Ambush doctrine are no longer as good as they once were. What do you all think of the changes to the codex FAQ? Let me know in the comments below!

Here are some screenshots from another battle that I did the next weekend. This battle was also verses chaos. This time Alpha Legion. This battle ended up with a Tanith Victory wiping out the enemy forces to a man. The Alpha legion player was new to the world of 40k and so I consider it more of a training game than a true game victory. However, it was a lot of fun to see the Matilda out on the table. Enjoy the screenshots from the game highlights.

Introductions: Howdy ya'll!

Hi guys, praetorianofthe_east here. I am one the main authors good friends and occasional opponent. I’ll be writing articles here sometimes, maybe more than that. Who knows eh?

Anyways what you’ll be able to expect out of me is a lot of kitbashes and conversions as that is what i love to do in this glorious hobby; some people like to paint or play, i love to kitbash. Also, expect some batreps out of me whenever i get the chance to play a game.

The main game that I play is 40k and i am currently focusing on a grand alliance of sorts for chaos, and then space marines. I do have a tyranids army but I am looking to sell it. Also, I love to write so expect some occasional fanfiction out of me.

Hopefully i can get a better post up in the near future but for now, happy wargaming.

Battle Report: Investigaton at Hive Felix (7th Edition)

"Foolish Mon-Keigh, thinking they can save this city. Let us show them the true meaning of Pain" - Archon Linnaeus before his raid into Hive Felix

Today I bring you another battle report from the front lines. This battle was between my brother's DE (Proxying with tau here) and my own Adeptus Mech forces of Metallica lead by my Female Magos with Inquisitional support. The mission was kill points with a extra point award to me for every Heavy support choice that i killed and claimed with my forces.

My brother and I rolled off and he claimed turn 1. Turn one saw him move up his forces and shot a bunch of my ruststalkers. He killed two. The raiders shot at my Onager but missed and the Ravager did as well. The Inquisitional Chimera was killed during this turn by a Raider. He also claimed two objectives during this turn.

My turn 1 saw my forces move up and claim a objective. My shooting however was ineffective and so I did very little damage to him.

His Turn 2 saw him move up again and fire upon my magos. Those shots went wide and missed mostly. The breachers were the next target and he got off some good shots. However the breachers made their saves and were able to tank the fire. His Raider had moved up and the warriors inside the raider fired upon my ruststalkers killing two of them. The incubi hide and held a objective in the back.

My turn 2 saw me move up again. Having lost most of my right flank, my forces were forced to close off that flank and leave it to the Dark Eldar. My Ruststalkers moved up and prepared for a charge against the Dark Eldar warriors. The breachers moved up and fired upon the warriors. Many warriors were killed by the breachers and Skitarii rangers. I was able to kill 2 of the Raiders on the left flank at this time but still the Dark eldar held. My ruststalkers charged into the Dark Eldar but failed to make their charge leaving them open to splinter fire.

His turn 3 saw him move up and fire upon my forces again. The jetbikes moved up and the warriors fired upon my ruststalkers. The ruststalkers were killed to a man. More fire was placed upon the Magos and Onager. Both tanked the fire and refused to die. Two breachers were killed to splinter fire. At this time, he charged his forces into my Dunestrider. The dunestrider survived and was able to kill off one reaver jetbike.

My turn 3 saw me move up some of my rangers as well as my Magos and breachers. I was able to kill off a squad of warriors and seized a point in the middle away from his witches. On the left flank, the breachers killed off a few more warriors and tried to get in range to charge the jetbikes. They would ultimately fail to make the charge. However, the Rangers and the Inquisitor were able to make the charge and killed two jetbikes.

His Turn 4 saw his second witch squad move up as well as his warrior squads on the right flank which had fully collapsed for the Ad Mech. The Magos and Onager were fired upon again but tanked it and the Dark Eldar Archon let out a sigh as his forces failed to do any damage on the left flank to the dunestrider / Rangers / Inquisitor.

My turn 4 saw my forces move up and proceed to fire upon the remaining warriors. The warriors holding the middle point were finally killed off but the breachers had a lot of room to move up before they could capture the point. In the assault phase the Rangers / dunestrider / Inquisitor were able to kill off  the last of the jetbikes and secure the objective.

At this point the game had to end due to time. Dark Eldar had earned 19 points to the Ad Mech  15.  It was a significant Dark Eldar victory but the Ad Mech had proved that they would not let the xeno off without a fight. Hive Felix had been cleansed of all those who had lived there but the records would at least indicate that the civilians had not been killed but dragged off to a fate worst than death.

Archon Linnaeus looked out over the battle field. The slaves had already been captured and dragged back to the slave pits. Now with the mon'keigh forces broken he could escape. His forces had taken a serious hit but he knew at the end of the day his Kabal would gain wealth from the slaves. He smiled to himself, A victory such as this was one that he could celebrate back in the halls tonight. With that last though, he stepped through the webway portal and left the world behind.

Now on to some 8th Edition discussion. Since 8th Edition is coming this next weekend, we here at Behind the Lines Gaming are going to hold off on the blog posting till 8th drops. At that point we will resume with our bi monthly posting as well as give you all our first impressions of 8th Edition.

Stay tuned, Exciting things are happening and we hope to be your leading source for all the newest changes coming to 40k.

Till next time!

Battle Report: Ambush at Hive Vulcan

"These Gue'la know not the power of the Farsight Enclaves, Let us enlighten them to the Greater Good" -   Attributed to one Shas'O Jark'ia MirrorWater prior to the Ambush at Hive Vulcan M. 41

Turn 1
Its time for another battle report, this time between myself and Silent Phantom 45.  Phantom decided to play Tau against my guard in a 1000 point match up. We each used a tournament list that I had written up and set up the table. Mission was to kill as many of the enemy as possible.

Turn 1 saw Phantom line up his two broadsides and fire off his missile salvos at me. The shots hit my chimera and blew it apart wrecking it. The Tanith jumped out and scattered as the Pardus Chimera burned. Next Crisis suits lined up a shot and fired their missiles and plasma at my Leman Russ tank. All of the shots missed.

My turn 1 saw me fire my chimeras and Leman at the crisis suits and broadsides. All of my shots failed to hit. I had forgotten to scout my snipers so they were left in reserve.

Turn 2 saw Phantom move his suits into position and line up another shot. This time the Leman Russ tank was knocked out by the two broadsides and the Crisis suit team that had missile pods and plasma rifles.  On the other end of the board, the crisis team failed to come in from reserve and the suits moved up along with the commander. The stealth team of three hid out in a ruin.

My turn 2 saw me move up my troopers to cover of the burning Russ. The scout sentinel walked into the lane of fire and the chimeras on the other end of the field moved up firing at the stealth team. 2 members of the stealth suit team were killed in action but their leader would rally on his own. A crisis suit of the three man squad was killed in action as well when the Tanith Veterans jumped out of their chimera and fired into the enemy with their war priest shouting hymns to the emperor. My snipers failed to come on

Turn 3 saw Phantom destroy another chimera as its Tanith crew jumped out from the flaming Pardus wreck.  The crisis team on the right flank blew apart the scout sentinel and the broadsides fire at the command chimera but missed. On the left flank the crisis suits and the commander tore into the Tanith squad and the priest. Two members of the squad were killed but the rest lived as the xeno suits descended upon them

My Turn 3 saw my command chimera move back to avoid the broadside guns. Orders were thrown out to the vets and they roared their defiance at the enemy killing two drones and a suit. The stealth team was shot at by the chimera but lived. On the right flank my Veterans were firing at the crisis team descending upon them. One enemy suit was killed. Again my snipers failed to come on.

Tau in my back field
Turn 4, Phantom deep struck his Tau into my back field. Tearing apart my Pardus chimeras, he ripped into them and the Tanith were forced to jump out. Now things were getting desperate. He fired destroying the command chimera. Ibram Gaunt and Colonel Corbec jumped out angry that their comrades had been killed by the xeno. A few more Tanith on each flank were killed as the xeno pressed their attack.

For the Emperor!
Turn 4 for me saw my guys fire into the Tau and a few assaults went off. Gaunt and his squad charged the Tau, and in return Ana was hit as they overwatched. The squad used their straight silvers to tear into the enemy ripping apart the suits as one enemy and a drone fell to the blade. In front of them, the Tanith veteran squad assaulted the Tau commander and last stealth suit in one of the most heroic acts of the game. This delaying action would later allow for the Tanith to re position themselves and get a better lane of fire on the enemy. Many more Tanith were killed and injured and the war priest himself was knocked out as the xeno commander pushed aside all opposition. The Tau stealth suit was killed inspiring the Tanith to greater feats of heroism.

For Tanith!
Turn 5 saw the Tau kill off the last of the Veteran squad and one lone Tanith sergeant ran for his life. The Tau commander fired killing three Veterans of Tanith and the broadsides moved up. The Command Squad and Gaunt were hit again losing another Tanith and on the left flank the survivors of the Tau commanders rampage got attacked again by the Shas'O. Things were starting to get very desperate.

My Turn 5 saw the snipers come on and the Veteran squad in the chimera join the assault against the Tau suits attacking my command squad. With their straight silvers, the Tanith tore into the Tau killing the suit and its drone. Now free of the melee of combat, the Command squad turned its attention to the squad of crisis suits bearing down upon it on the right. Gaunt and Corbec was all that was left. Doc Dorden had been KO'ed by the suit as it went down. The snipers fired killing the second suit leaving two suits alive. Gaunt and Corbec moved towards their enemy to show them Tanith's wraith.

Desperate Melee combat
Turn 6 saw the enemy Tau commander punch his fist into the Pardus chimera with a str 10 AP1 hit. the tank exploded causing him 3 wounds and killing 2 Tanith in return. The Crisis suit then moved towards his next target: the lone Tanith veteran squad. The two suits fired on Gaunt and Corbec but missed. The broadsides had no targets but moved up anyways killing one sniper. The lone sergeant running for his life was also killed during this turn.

My Turn 6 saw my last Vet squad fire on the Crisis command but fail to kill him. The Snipers fired on the commander suit but failed to kill him. Corbec and Gaunt took on the two suits and killed both in melee combat. They then consolidated towards the enemy commander.

Turn 7 saw the enemy commander jumping away from the three surviving Tanith and firing his last charge of Ion at them. All three were vaporized in a hail of ion fire.
Corbec and Gaunt face the Tau

My Turn 7 saw Gaunt and Corbec fight the Xeno in melee. Both were Knocked out and left for dead on the battle field.

Victory had gone to the Tau!

Post Game report:

Well that wasn't how I expected things to go. This fight was hard and Phantom (being my brother) knew what I would do and countered hard. It was a bloody fight till the end and was a hard fought game. I learned a lot and really enjoyed the list I was using. Someday i'll have to challenge him again to replay this fight. For a while I thought I had him but he was able to play aggressively and turn the tide. Some of you might note that he was using my Tau against me. Thats because he doesnt have a army of his own but Its nice to see my figures being used (even if it is against me). Anyway leave comments and any questions you have i'll be happy to answer.

Till next time!

Battle Report: Battle for Hive Desolation

"There was fire and smoke, they killed a few of our guys and we killed a few of theirs. In the end we were the ones left standing. The Emperor protects" - Unknown,  Attributed to one Captain Jonus Reamus of the Phantine 44th Skyborne.

Turn 1
So today I come with news of another battle report. This time at the 750 point level. We played on a 4x4 table with Inquisition + Elysians vs Tau. This time we fought for Hive Desolation.

Turn 1

We set up the table and each player picked a side. He went first. The Tau moved up and fired a few shots into my guard. Nothing hit.

My turn, i get my orders thrown out and move up some. The Chimera comes up the left side of the field and the Tarous speeds forward. At this point i open fire and killed a few fire warriors. The Tarous injures the broadside but fails to kill it. My other Tarous kills a Crisis suit earning me first blood.
Turn 2

Turn 2

He opens fire again and damages the chimera some by dropping a Crisis suit behind it. The first dune buggy is destroyed but the second one survives to fight another day. The fire warriors open fire on my guardsmen and Inquisition warbands but fail to injury any.

My turn. I move up and throw out orders. The pykers cast their powers (Presence) and the Inquisitor and his warband get out of the chimera to attack the suit behind them. Shooting goes off seeing another Tau squad killed and another damaged. In the backfield, the Inquisitor and his warband open fire with their pistols before charging into CQB with the crisis suit. One round of very close combat sees it dead. The team then consolidates 5' and goes back towards their transport.

Turn 3
Turn 3

He drops another crisis suit behind my three man warband and moves some fire warriors forward. He opens fire and kills off one of the warband. The broadside kills my chimera and explodes it killing 3 members of the Inquisitors warband. At this point its just the death cult assassin and the Inquisitor himself. The crisis suit burns a few of my guys but they make their armor save.

On my turn i throw out orders and have my squads all gun down his crisis suit. The now 2 man warband opens fire and kills a lone fire warrior. The Dune buggy kills a lone pathfinder. The other squad guns down the rest of the pathfinders.

Turn 4

He moves up some and opens fire on me. All shots either fail to hit or are saved. My dice were rolling really hot that day.
Turn 4

Turn 4, I throw out orders and fire on a few fire warriors. At this point he decided to concede defeat.

Victory goes to the Guard 4-2

Fire and smoke were coming off the now destroyed Tarous. The two man crew burned to a crisp inside. The Tau had pulled back for now but the day was won. Captain Jonus Remaus looked around at his tired and bloody men. All veterans of many jumps. Now working for the Inquisition under Xeno Inquisitor Umarus. The Tau Commander had been killed in action or so he had believed but Umarus had told him that the xeno had escaped. For the moment however, Jonus didn't care. sheathing his power sword he sat down and found a spot to relax. In moments, sleep overtook him. However his dreams were anything but peaceful....

The Kill Team game
Afterwords we decided to mess around and do a 3 way 250 point kill team game. Imperial Guard Tanith vs Inquisition vs Tau. Overall it was a very fun game. Kinda silly but enjoyable. Finally we had to leave and called it a day.

Battle Report: Battle For Hive Valediction

The table at the end and a wide view of the game
"As the Emperor Protects, so must we" - Col. Commissar  Ibram Gaunt

This past weekend I played my friend Salous against his new ork army. In response I broke out my Tanith First and Only that I haven't run in forever and went to war.

Saint Sabbat takes the lead for the Tanith!

The table was played on a F.A.T Mat by frontline gaming which was really really nice! Maybe one day i'll buy one of them because it added alot of feeling to the battle. So how did it go? Well the guard walked away with solid 4-1 VP over the orks. We played at 1200 points and I used a custom Tanith Codex by Chaos_Seerer from Bolter and Chainsword.

Deploy was the standard deployment and we had 4 VP placed around the table. Although I outnumbered the orks, it was still going to be a tough game since he was running a biker squad. This squad had no painboy so in that regard I was lucky! Still guard shooting and orders were a important part of this battle.

Turn 1 say him move up and into the guard lines. Two of the Pardus 8th tanks were damaged and a few Tanith were shot at. However most of the shots either missed or were off target.

My turn 1 saw me killed a lot of the bikers and a few of his orks. Guard effectiveness was played up to make sure that they huged cover and make sure that they stayed out of his charge range.

Turn 2 saw him shot and then charge my tanks. This was a really bad turn as two of the Pardus 8th tanks were wrecked. The game looked bad. On the other hand, the ork squad failed to get off a charge against one of the Tanith squads who were lucky to fight another day.

The Commissar and her men
My turn 2 saw my remaining tank kill a few Orks. The soldiers mostly focused on the bikes and killed off the biker squad except for the Ork warboss on his bike. Having no other options left, Saint Sabbat charged the Warboss. The war boss looked at her, and then checked his lucky stick. Salous rolled a one twice and the War boss killed himself with his lucky stick leaving the Tanith and the Beati very confused. The Phantine Vendetta took off a hull point and blew up the boom gun on the back of the truck.

Turn 3 saw him charge a Tanith Squad and whip them out but not before taking serious causalities. The Orks repaired the boom gun and set about shooting at the third tank. Finally his nobs killed my last remaining tank. the other orks took a few shots at the Tanith but did little

My turn 3 saw me move up to meet the ork squad and to capture the far left point. Another tanith squad moved up to the red building and moved to capture the point hidden in the red building. A few orks died and the Vendetta came on shooting at the truck again.

Turn 4 saw him move a few orks and fire his orks at my Tanith. Three Tanith died but the others went to ground and used their camo cloaks to hide from the blast.

My turn 4  saw me move my Saint Sabbat and her Tanith Squad into position to charge. It was at this point that Salous called the game.

So what do I think of the game? Well It was a strong guard victory. The codex played very well and the Tanith units felt true to the lore. I had a really fun time running my army the way I had envisioned them to play. The dice rolls were pretty equal between us so there was alot of back and forth in the way the game was played. At one point I was pretty sure I had lost when the orks war boss had not died to concentrated fire. However, it was lucky he died to his own stick.

The battle was over, and the Guard had held the Line.

Battle Report: Death at Hive Spartacus

Hello everyone!
Today we're going to feature some exciting front lines new from the Ventra Majoris Campaign.  My Detachment D-44 has deployed to the front lines of the Dragon System on the Imperial Hive World of Hera. Up for grabs is the Hive of Spartacus, one of the major hives on the northern part of the world.  Pwnzilla's own Imperial Guard have also deployed here against the threat of Overlord Osiris and his tomb.

We played a 1000 point match of IG vs Necrons:

Right Side of the Table
Before the game started I took a few screen shots of my completed models that i thought i might be fielding for the day (came out to 1500). Instead we reduced the points and choose to do a 1000 instead. Seen here is my army on parade before they were shipped off to their war zone.
Left Side of the Table
When the time came i was able to get a table and we started the match. Deployment took a while but he decided to let me have first turn and deploy first. Sneaky Necron.

Deployment
Turn 1 saw my ratlings fire into the squad hidden in the middle building claiming first blood. The chimera rolled up and fired at his necrons on the left flank. My Russ tank fired a shell into the building but failed to kill anything. Guardsmen move up to take a firing position into the necron forces.

His turn 1 saw the necron move up. Multiple turns of fire saw a few guardsmen die and the tanks removed a few hull points from the gauss fire. Obyron deep striked into my backfield behind the 30 man strong platoon. Now i was in trouble!  Still it was anyone's game.

Turn 2 saw my ratlings fire against into his squad hiding in the building. Some good hits but not enough damage to cause him to flee. 30 guardsmen opened fire into Obyron killing a few of his lynchguard but not enough to force him to flee. My chimera and russ fire into the enemy again but fail to do much.

His turn 2 saw a major swing in the battle as he blew up my chimera and my russ tank. The necron warriors moved up and unleashed into my veterans that were hiding in the chimera. Obyron and his lynchguard killed my lord commissar gaining slay the warlord. Now i was in trouble.

Turn 2 (Bottom)

Turn 3 saw me fire my vets into his advancing warriors while trying to hold onto the left point. my ratlings were able to fire a few more shots but did little. The right side platoon of 20 shot up a few warriors advancing upon the middle point.  Assault phase saw Obyron slay 10 guardsmen.

His turn 3 saw the necrons warriors on both sides of the table advance. The left side unleashed a volume of fire into my vets. The right side fired at my ratlings killing them. Still it looked very bad for my guard.

Turn 4 another volume of fire into the advancing necron sees little damage done. My dice were failing me. Close combat sees Obyron slay a few more guardsmen

His turn 4 sees the last Lynchguard go down. He teleports Obyron out of assault and marches his necron up the field slaying my vets and claiming the left objective.

Turn 4 (bottom)
Turn 5. The critical turn. My guardsmen move, run and sprint up the field to claim the center and left objective contesting the left and holding the center. Now all i had to do was not die....guard? who was i kidding :P

His turn 5 saw him run up the field with his necron on the left gunning down my guardsmen contesting the left point claiming it. His middle fired into my guardsmen holding the center killing one but also contesting the center. The score was now 1 held by necron, 1 contested.

We rolled for turn 6 and got a 1! game over  Necron win!

After actions review:  Darn it! not the way i wanted that match to go. I felt that a few critical moves could have helped me mid game but still Renegade09 is a great player. The deep striking of Obyron and learning that Gauss weapons insta-kill guardsmen meant that i felt cover would become center to fighting against his force. A lesson i held to in the next game we played (non campaign) just last week at 500 points. A stunning return for the guard, but that is a story for another time.

Till next time keep rolling those dice and may the odds be ever in your favor!

Battle Report: Massacre at Squat Alley

Today marks a important goal in my Guard army. I have finally finished painting all my Gaunt's Ghost.
(Nov 10th, 2013). So now the question is, where do i go from here? For now I think i'm going to take a well deserved rest before jumping back into the fray of cloaking 100+ models with green stuff. This achievement is no small feat but i'm proud of the work that has been accomplished. Hopefully i'll get back to a true update soon.

Renegade09 and Pwnzilla678 have also joined the site and will be contributing their own forces of Necron lead by Phearon Osiris and The Vostroyan 47th led by Colonel Ivan. We have all joined the Dakka Dakka World Wide Campaign II located in the Dragon System of the Ventra Majoris Sub-Sector. Hopefully in the coming weeks you'll hear from them about their own forces too!

Today though, we turn to another BATTLE REPORT! This battle was one that was fought earlier this year between Renegade09, Pwnzilla678 and myself. We were playing our own version of Kill Team with one (1) troop choice and one (1) Hq unit. No specialist were taken.  this 3 way free for all was aiming to capture the vital uplink station in the center of the alley.

The Alley
The forces consisted of,
Imperial Guard: 1 veteran squad and 1 Lord Commissar
Squats (count as IG): 1 Veteran squad and 1 Lord Commissar
Tau: Crisis Battlesuit and one 12 man squad of Tau

The Tau took the early lead and held the objective quickly while splitting their forces into 2 6 man squads to attack both the Squats and the Imperial Guardsmen coming from the bottom left and bottom right of the above picture. The Tau with their range were able to kill 3 guardsmen and 2 Squats.  The battlesuit commander sniped at the Lord Commissar of my Imperial Guard (Inquisitor count as) but missed.

The guard move up but fail to kill but 1 tau, meanwhile the Squats moved up and shot a well placed volley into the tau 6 man squad that was holding the upper left hillside. However the Tau failed to run and the Squats were forced to suffer another round of shooting.

Turn 2 sees more of the same, with the Warlord for the Squats being slayed and the Tau suffering more casualties. Amazingly they hold. The guard move up and run to get into a better cover.

By Turn 3 the game was starting to shift, the Tau were suffering casualties but had yet to give up the objective having obtain First Blood and Slay The Warlord on the Squats. My guard meanwhile were fighting uphill on the bottom right of the Alley to try to get a advantage of high on the Tau. Brave Phantine Guardsmen were both killed and wounded including Captain Jonus Remaus who was wounded in action. Finally after the guard was able to capture the top of the hill, they suffered more battlesuit commander fire killing the Inquisitor (Slay the warlord for the Tau player again).

By Turn 4, the game had whole shifted, the tau were able to slay a few more guardsmen and squats. However the Squats assaulted into the tau causing them to be locked in CQB.Also important was the killing off of the back tau line now reduced in order for the squats to move up unopposed. With their fire warriors locked in combat in the back field and the guard moving up, doom loomed for the Tau. The saving grace was the battlesuit commander who took the fight to the guard bringing them down below half. They saved on their Ld test and held. The commander jumped back into the alley to hide. The guard move up laying down a cover fire into the tau in the alley. Only a few tau are killed but the dice rolled in his favor.

By Turn 5 the game was all but over. The tau were definitely going to win but the squats were not willing to let the Tau commander get away with this massacre.  Seen here is the lone squat warrior left of his brotherhood attacking the tau commander on the bottom of 4. He has just passed both his saves. (A picture worthy moment indeed). In turn 5 he would be killed off, thus earning the name of this battle report. My own guardsmen were able to make a last minute rush to the objective but were shot off the objective by tau overwatch when i was forced to assault to move them off the objective.

VICTORY GOES TO Renegade09 and the Tau!
