Sisters of Battle: Saint Sabbat and her angels

"There are no miracles , there are only men" - Saint Sabbat
"Do not shrik! Do not falter! Give them death in the name of Sabbat"  - Saint Sabbat at the Battle for the Gates of Harkalon

Welcome back to Behind the Lines!

Today we have a Saint Celestine proxy for my new Sisters of Battle army. The Sisters of Battle are currently the oldest line of models in 40k and so most of my sisters are going to be either 3rd party or proxy. For Celestine and her angels, I choose to have a Harbinger of Menoth to be the base of my model. I then found some Blood Angel wings thanks to a local gamer (Thanks Charlie!) and converted my Celestine model. For her angels, I found two old Sister models on ebay and bought them for probably more than they are worth. All of this was done before the plastic Celestine came out.

However, its been a while and with the Sisters back on as a possible 2019 release, I wanted to get my army ready. So I found the pieces, converted Celestine up and painted her in the colors of Saint Sabbat as described in the Gaunt's Ghost series of books. This will allow me to connect Sabbat (Celestine) into the theme of my armies so that I can use my sisters across multiple armies.

In order to paint Sabbat, I used a grey primer. I then used scarlet red for her robes and metallic bronze for her army as described from the Gaunt's Ghost wiki page. After those dried I was both in Nuln oil before highlighting the red with Wazzadakka red and the bronze using Balazhar gold. The wings had already been painted by Charlie and looked fine to me so I added them on after I was done with the paint job. For the flesh, I used Flat Flesh by Vallejo and then added a flesh wash. After that dried I used a rose flesh mixed with a light flesh and highlighted her skin.

For her hair I used a Vallejo black base and then added Vallejo black-grey highlights. For the basing I used GW astrogranite and then highlighted it with Longfang grey.

For her Geminae Superia I did the same color scheme as described above. However for the power armor I used a black base and then added a highlight of black-grey. The scheme I decided to go for with my sisters is the Order of the Ebon Chalice. This is the traditional Sisters scheme of Black armor with white robes on the outside and red on the inside. For the silvers, I used Games workshop Ledblecher with vallejo silver. For the reds I used Vallejo Scarlet and then added Wazzadakka red as a highlight.

This is just the start of the Sisters of Battle. I have ordered and put together 2 Exorcist Tanks as well as 2 Repressors. I also have ordered 2 more squads of 5 sisters. That way, I can run a battalion of sisters. I am excited to run this army in 2018 and I hope to have more to show off soon.

Until next time!

Menoth: Paladins and the Wall

Today I present another round of Menoth. Usually this blog has a bit more 40k to it than Warmachine but with the Football season kicking off I felt it was time to get back to my Alabama Football theme'ed Menoth (Roll tide!).

Today I present two more units done up in the Crimson and White.First off we got a Paladin of the Order of the Wall. For this army, I have decided that all fabrics would be white and all hard armor would be crimson red. Swords are going to be metals and highlights are going to be placed as needed to make the models pop.

The Paladin was a fun model to work on. I enjoyed working on the cloak and the robes the most. For this paladin however, I tried a different trick and did my whites another way instead of my traditional way I've been doing them. In my opinion I much prefer this new way of doing white to the old style. Whats your thoughts on it?

The highlights as usually were added on last to the Paladin and eyes were added to round out the figure. Eyes on miniatures is a new trick I've been teaching myself lately and trying it not only for 40K but for Warmachine as well has been a lot of fun, if a little bit of a challenge.

So what are my goals with this army. First off, I am not a serious warmachine player. I play mostly to enjoy myself and own this army as a alternative game to play should nobody in the FLGS be playing 40k that day. As such a lot of my time is spent painting these miniatures over actually playing. Secondly, since most of my favorite schemes have been taken by my 40k armies I wanted a theme that I could do easily and as such I chose this scheme to work with to honor my Alma Mater. Plus its fun (for me) to watch Alabama football and paint miniatures while yelling at the TV on Saturdays.

So whats next for this army. Well it use to be a 50 point army back in MKII. I have not checked the points under the new system but I do have a few more squads and warjacks to attend to. I've been saving the warjacks for later, meaning when the weather gets cooler and I can break out my airbrush to get them done quickly. This is also the case for my preferred warcaster, The Harbringer of Menoth. I want her to be my center piece model so I've been getting better at this scheme in preparation to airbrush her model.

As mentioned in an earlier post, We here at Behind the Lines Miniatures have had Jerry2die4 and Praetorianoftheeast join our little team of writers and so in the future we hope to get their own armies displayed here.

Until Next time!

Necron of Tomb World Abyss: The Tomb Rises

Wide view

This post is one that I thought I had put in years ago but it turns out that I never got around to it. Today, I present to you Renegade09's  Necron of Nemesor Osyris and Tomb World Abyss.

This Tomb has awoken with a vengeance and was shown in this post here in the fight for Hive Spartacus. Since I never got around to actually posting the Necron warriors, I think today I will fix that. In the fight for Dakka Dakka's World Wide Campaign #2 Hive Spartacus fell to the Nemesor as the Necron pushed on the World of Hera.

Necrons are Renegades09's first army for 40k. He decided that the World of Abyss would be a desert world and that his Necron have awoken from the Imperium arriving on the world. Renegade09's Necron fought my first Tanith army multiple times throughout 2012-2013.

Two of the First Warriors
In order to do his paint scheme, Renegade used a textured spray paint on the models bases. First he primed the models black. He then used Leadblecher for the metal parts of the Necron and added Zandri Dust to the parts of the armor. For the guns, Renegade used Chaos black and then added a wash of Nuln oil. The Greens were done with Dark angels green and then after a green wash, a highlight of warpstone glow were added to the model. The warriors were done over the course of a couple of paint nights that we did.

Another Two warriors of Tomb Abyss
Today, Renegade has started his army again after a long dry spell from 40k. This has been due to work and real life. Hopefully in the future we will get to see more pictures as Renegade returns to his Necron and continues to awaken the tomb.

In Warmachine news, Renegade has also started a Khador army as well. As my blog readers know, I play Menoth in warmachine so hopefully someday Renegade and I will be able to play a few games of Warmachine against one another.

Since MK III's release I have only gotten one game in. This game did not go well for me as I got caster killed turn 3. I plan on mailing Renegade a few 40k pieces that he plans to use to modify one of his Khador Jacks.

Till next time, keep checking back, say hi or just let us know you were here. Every little bit helps!

2016: A Year in Review

Rolling for Happy New Year!
Still Secret Im Afraid
Well here we are again! Seems like only yesterday we were starting another New Year. This year has seen a lot of changes in both myself and this blog. Every day brought something new this year and the world has kept on spinning. We here at Behind the Lines Gaming would like to wish you a Happy New Year. At the beginning of the year were had promised to promote big news to you all. That big news is still happening, even if things have been quiet, but we will tell you more in 2017. As always keep checking back for updates on that.

The Tanith and Allied guard have gotten a lot of attention this year. I can safely safe that most of those units have been painted. 2017 should see some additions to the armies.  The Tau as noted earlier will be getting reinforcements with the Riptide battlesuit and hopefully a few more surprises. The Adeptus Mechanicus army is growing with the additional purchase of a skitarii army pending at the moment. More news on that soon! Finally with MK III of warmachine out now, I have gotten into full swing of painting those miniatures. Hopefully i'll be able to take them out for a few games.

As always we plan to do a Top Three projects we have done this year. Located here, the Gallery is a page dedicated to the top work on completed models we've done each year.Give it a look and let us know what you think!

Tiger Tank of the Imperium
#1 this year turned out to be a product review of the Gideon Tank done by MadRobot Miniatures! This review came in with nearly 1137 views! A huge thank you to Steve at MadRobot for putting up with me while I made the order. These models were a joy to put together and a joy to paint. The fact that I got 2 more waiting to be painted is only extra exciting to me! Once warmer weather hits Im going to break out my airbrush and start on its two siblings ASAP! In the future I hope to order potentially two more to add to the armored group. We'll have to see though.

12 Crisis Suits Plus 1 more
#2 this year was the Tau [Crisis Suit] Story. At 764 views this post was the second most viewed post of the year.  Once I had decided on a scheme for my Sept I set about painting it.This scheme was exteremly popular with the folks down at my LFGS and the models have seen a ton of play. I think the post was popular because of the amount of Tau crisis suits? Maybe it was just the amount of painted Tau? Whatever the case It has been a fun journey to show them off to you all and play with them on the table and against them. Trust me, Its not fun to face down 24 plasma rifles as guard. Still the modification to the models to make the XV-46 was one of my favorite changes to these stock models. Leave no model unconverted!

#3 this year was a twist. Pulling from our Dark Heresy game, Sister Hana and Krieger 18D became the third most popular post with 682 views. This project was being completed by my friend Bandogora and he has progressed well on both Hana and 18D. In the future he hopes to finish Hana and add in the rest of the party including our Tech Priest Magnus Nicodemus of Metallica and Interrogator Bo Terran. Time will tell if he can do it.  This project was a joy to watch come to completion. As our Dark Heresy season has ended for the year, I can fully say the party did not come away unscathed. Truths were revealed that injured the party and caused many angry emotions. Next season will show if the party and time has healed the wounds left by one party members betrayal.

As the year comes to a close I wish to thank my loyal readers and those who follow me. It makes writing these post easier knowing that some people read them and enjoy the content of them.If you like what you see please become a follower of the blog or leave a comment below! Every little bit helps

With that I wish you the best in this ending to 2016 and a happy start to 2017! Keep rolling those dice and stay tuned for many new exciting things to come in 2017!

Menoth: Warcaster Kreoss and Hierophant

Without basing
This post has been sitting in my que for a while (since at least November 2016) but for some reason I could never find the right time for it to be released. Today I hope to rectify that.

These pictures are the start of my Menoth army for warmachine. The two models I have for you to day are Warcaster Kreoss and a Hierophant. Kreoss was the starter box warcaster for in MK II and was the first warcaster I ever used. I was not overly fond of him but he has his uses as a good offensive warcaster.

Kreoss
Here you can see his model without the basing and after with the basing. I decided to go for a Alabama Crimson Tide Football color scheme for my Menoth. With the two main colors being crimson and white (and grey for some away games), I wanted to do a tribute to my alma mater.

Crimson and White was a paint scheme that I had been itching to try for a long while. At first I thought about trying to do it with the Tau and then the Ad Mech. However in the end neither of those truly spoke to me and I ended up going with other colors. The Menoth however did speak to me and these colors matched what I wanted to do with this army.

Kreoss and Hierophant
With Kreoss complete, the decided that I liked the look and carried on with the next model: The Hierophant.  This model adds a lot of casting power to  the warcasters abilities. For the Hierophant I decided to try to do some cold blue tones on his robes and model areas. I have been learning to paint cold blue and warm blue lately in an effort to expand my painting pallet.

As this army continues to get painted I hope to be able to show off more of the skills in painting I am trying to learn. High lightening, blending and other techniques are all important to make a model "pop".  It is my hope that I can be able to learn these skills and bring them back to my other armies. Already I have learned a ton about painting white.

As always keep checking back! Let us know you were here or just say hi. Every little bit helps. Till next time!

Updates and Reviews: Tanith First and Only and Warmachine Cards

So what has been new with me? Well first off, I got a new job starting this month! Finally I am able to get some use out of my degree that I went to university for four years for. I also quit my old job and started looking towards getting a second Master's degree in order to shore up my current one. You might also notice the new look for the site. I felt it was time for a change so I have changed the site to a new theme. Enjoy and let me know what you think? Enough about me for the meantime though, lets get to some miniatures.

2016 Menoth Deck
A little while back I ordered the 2016 version of the Menoth Deck for Warmachine. This new deck for MK III really did come with a lot of new updates to the game. I even got a game in with the MK III rules. Needless to say I was caster killed but the list nonetheless allowed for me to better understand the new rules. I really enjoyed being about to get out and game for once in a long while. The deck came with enough cards for every model that I had and seemed to be fit to handle alot of new miniatures I hadnt even seen yet. Hopefully Soon I will be able to return to Warmachine and get a few more hours in.

Our local game store in the area has died leaving us that game with a problem. The nearest store is a hour and forty five minutes away, a distance that i dont feel like driving just to game for a few hours to turn around and drive home again. This has caused my ability to game to be lessened but my painting has also suffered because of my busy life and the lack of wanting to paint due to not playing as much. Nonetheless I have forced myself to paint and thats what I am wanting to show off to you all today!

As a running series, I usually try to place the header images with what the topic of the day will relate to. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Today, we will be covering the first five newly painted models of another Tanith First and Only Squad I started working on.

5 New Tanith ready to go!
This 5 man squad of Tanith was a welcome start to my painting again. The process took about a week to complete and each model was given special attention to make sure it was up to par. These lads are going to be a part of first platoon under Colonel Corbec. While no character names have been given yet, the models are now sitting besides there comrades in my case. Hopefully sometime soon I will finish the next five members of the squad and complete them. This army is mean
t to be my dream army and someday I hope to add in some more female models once they come on the market. The Tanith are on the march and my Sabbat Worlds Crusade army is growing.

Action shot of the Battle for Hive Valediction
Just as a quick add, I posted this action shot from a blog post a while back. Thanks to Jayson Molyneux of the Facebook Astra Militrum / Imperial Guard group for making it look like it was taken in the heart of battle. Looks really nice and well done!

Keep Checking back for more!

Till next time.

2014: A year in Review

Roll that D6

Its about that time of the year again! 2014 is drawing to a close and 2015 is on the way! What a year it has been! This year started off with a new case and my Imperial guard army becoming a completed project. As this year draws to a close this blog will continue to expand with new content. 2015 is going to be a exciting year full of new projects, new models and expansions.

First off is going to be the start of a full Victoria Miniatures army full of "Border world Rangers". These models are excellent resin models and contain large amounts of character. I will intend to do a full review on Victoria miniatures that I had planned to do in 2014. Also in the works is my Tau army that is being painted up in a brand new color scheme. This scheme is the result of a lot of trial and error.

Tau scheme and paints

Secondly I have also started on my Menoth force. Although no models have been shown yet, the force is well underway. The miniatures market paints have allowed my color palette to expand.  There might be plans to redo my Forge world models in a new scheme in 2015 but that for the moment has been back burned. One of my Valkyries has also been stripped of its paint and a new planned paint job is in the works for 2015. How many of these goals I achieve is still unknown.

As always at the end of the year, Its time to review the top 3 projects. This year has seen many exciting and new things come across my work bench.

#3 would have to be my salamander command vehicle that i built out of a old hellhound. The model was in rough shape when i got her but after some tough love and care she was restored and commissioned into my Padrus 8th armored force. She is still unnamed at this point but the model was one of my favorite to work on!

#2 was  my assassins that i worked on for my inquisitional army. This assassin named A-68 was done up with eldar parts as well as imperial guard, space marine and warhammer fantasy models.
#1 then for 2014 is a hard choice. Overall i think it would have to be the heavy weapons teams that i redid from scratch. These models took the most time but the end results were way above what i had expected! Although the number of models in the group felt like they were going to take forever, the task actually went by really quickly once the army had gotten started again. It was a proud moment of accomplishment for the year and left me room to start with my tau army.

As this year comes to a close I want to thank everyone that has kept with this blog! Knowing that people read and watch this blog helps to motivate me to accomplish these task. If you like what you see please become a follower and tell your wargaming friends about this blog. Every little bit helps!
Also leave a comment or just say hello, Every little bit helps! :)

As the year comes to end all i can say is keep rolling those dice. 2015 is coming with many new and exciting projects, Stay Tuned~!

Product Review: Miniatures Market.com

Here we are again, another Product Review! This time we are looking over the service provided by Miniatures Market.com. I was shopping for some paints on cyber Monday and stumbled across their store. The prices compared to my local game store were way better and the amounts of paint i needed were going to be expensive. Miniatures Market helped me to make that experience much easier. (Note: i am not being paid or anything else for this review)

The ordering was easy however i noted that their was a 4 day shipping delay due to the holiday season and what i believe was my reason for delay. I had forgotten to put in a shipping address for them to ship the paints, Once i fixed this, my status order went from: ready to ship to Completed. This is believed to be my own problem and does not reflect upon their service. Finally on Monday the 8th of December they shipped. I fully believe that my shipping delay was no fault of their own even with the holiday season. Still i was excited to see how the order turned out. The ordre arrived on December 10. 1 day earlier than the expected delivery date. The box was in good shape and all the paints were there in a baggie. I quickly got the box open and put the paints in there new home.
The new colors.
The paints arrived and i tested out the Turqouise ink anxious to see how it work. All of the bottles were very nicely sealed and the paints arrived in good shape.

Now im not sure about the paint bottles but im not sure if i should keep them in their dropper bottles or put them into seperate paint pots? I think they would retain their life time better if i kept them in their droppers but the chance to have easier access is tempting. Im sure i'll figure it out soon. In the mean time the picture below shows them in their new home on my work desk. Hopefully given time i'll be able to start using these paints and give them a test on some of my miniatures.

So some final thoughts, Would I recommend Miniatures Market?  Yes. Their service and handling was quick and easy. Their customer rewards program made checkout a breeze and the fact that they had some of the best prices I had seen online left me wanting to make another order. I would highly recommend Miniatures market for all your war gaming needs when it comes to paints and supplies. The other materials I look at had wonderful prices as well although I didn't have a need for anything at the time. I intend to order again soon!

My Paint rack

Also of note was my own fun i had in Microsoft excel. I created a full layout for my Tanith First and only army as well as my Detachment D-44. Seen below is three platoons worth of troops and the three veteran squadrons of my Phantine. In the future I hope to expand it with regimental honors, campaigns, battles, and how they fair against each enemy they encounter. Once that is done i also want to do it with my Tau.   Till next time....
